Healthy Kids Plate Review!

I ran across Super Healthy Kids website one day and I fell in love with their Healthy Kids Plates!  I was so excited when I found out I was going to get to review their MyPlate for kids with Dairy bowl and lesson plan!  My kids and I where even more excited when the plate set actually arrived at our house.

My kids are not picky eaters so I am lucky in that department with my kids.  I can easily see Healthy Kids Plates being helpful to parents with picky eaters though because it makes all foods fun!  My kids have been learning a lot about Dairy, Protein, Grains, Fruits and Vegetables!  The reason I say that Healthy Kids Plates makes food fun is because the set I am reviewing came with a lesson plan.  The lesson plan comes with instructions on different things you can do with your kids or if you are a teacher things you can do with your students.  The lesson plan comes with a good amount of things you can print off to do with your kids.  I changed the lessons to fit my kids!  I have a 5 year old daughter and a 3 year old son!  MyPlate for kids with Dairy bowl and lesson plan is for Kindergarten through 2nd grade audience!

First thing my kids did with the plate and bowl set was obviously eat out of it!  They love food!  After that I washed the set up and have been using it to play little games with them to help them learn the different food groups!  I printed out pictures that came with the lesson plan that had different foods on them and I had my kids show me where on the plate/bowl each different food should go!  I was very surprised how fast they both picked up on it!

As a mother having my kids eat healthy and have fun while doing so is very important to me.  My kids are both hands on learners so MyPlate for kids with Dairy bowl and lesson plan is perfect for them!

Some great tips my kids and I learned from Super Healthy Kids is:

Balance Calories
  • Enjoy food but eat less
  • Avoid oversized portions
Foods to Increase
  • Make half your plate fruits and veggies
  • Make at least half your grains whole grains
  • Switch to low-fat or fat free milk
Foods To Reduce
  • Choose low sodium foods
  • Cut back on foods high in fat and sugar
  • Drink water instead of sugary drinks
Some of the things that come with the lesson plan are:

Shapes to symbolize Grains, Dairy, Protein, Fruits and vegetables!
Pictures of different foods from all the food groups!
(These are the ones I cut out for my kids and had
them show me where they each go)
Chart for meal planning!

I highly suggest MyPlate for kids with Dairy bowl and lesson plan to parents and/or teachers of kids in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade!  Do you have kids of other ages in your home or classroom?  If so don't worry!  You can head to MyPlate to see all of there other products!

Plus on top of all of that we also received a card with some recipes on it!  Our favorite recipe that we received was Green Beans!  I guess I can be nice and share the recipe with you ;)

Green Beans
1TBL Olive Oil
1 Clove garlic
3 Cups green beans
1/4 Cup chicken broth

Place olive oil in skillet with garlic.  Brown garlic for 2-3 minutes.  Add green beans and broth.  Simmer green beans in the broth for 7-8 minutes.  ENJOY!
